    FAQ’s

Drywall averages are supposed to be around 10-15% of waste that can be secured. So, when you’re planning a drywall project, you could use an extra 10-15% of the material in addition to the amount that you calculated to be used for your project. This extra amount will therefore take care of mistake cuts and leftover pieces, which will not be usable. So, if your drywall project needs 100 square feet, you may order around 110 to 115 square feet to be safe!

The most common size of drywall sheets is 4 by 8 feet; this gives you 32 square feet per sheet, but bigger sizes can be found, such as 4 by 12 for larger projects. These are the sheets most commonly used in homes and buildings because they are easy to handle and cover much space quickly!

Drywall thickness is a key quantity when you’re estimating. The most common are 1/2-in. for regular walls and 5/8-in. for ceilings or fire-rated areas. For varying thicknesses, check your project specifications. You will probably have to adjust your framing or your fasteners for thicker drywall. Be sure everything gets correct in your estimate so it all works out during installation.

To calculate the square footage on walls, we will first measure the height and the width of each wall in feet. Then, we multiply the height by the width to get the area of each wall. For example, if the height is 10 feet and the width is 12 feet, the area will be 10 x 12 = 120 square feet. Now, sum up the area of all walls to get the total square footage. This number helps us determine how much drywall you will need for your project!

We have to account for doors and windows when we estimate our materials because they are going to affect how much space we need to cover with walls. For example, if a door is 3 feet wide and 7 feet tall, that means it takes up 21 square feet of your wall space. So, with 4 doors and two windows in that house, we will calculate the area of each of them. After that, we subtract this area from the total wall area so that you can have a better estimation. This tells us just how much to purchase exactly. We know that you don’t want to be short or have too many materials!

We’ll need to estimate the number of screws or nails. There is an easy way to do this. For most projects, such as fencing in a garden or attaching boards to posts, we use about 2 to 3 screws per foot. For example, with a 10-foot-long board, we might need about 20 to 30 screws. The length and number of the pieces we are working with allow us to add up the total number of screws or nails needed, so we’re not left in the middle of a project without enough!
